How to compare supplier price lists with different column names

Your catalog may call a field SKU while a supplier calls it Code. Compare the meaning of each column before comparing its values. Use one supplier, one currency and the same price basis.

Step by step

  1. Prepare the current list and supplier update as UTF-8 CSVs with unique nonempty SKUs. Each file may be up to 400 KB and 2,000 data rows.
  2. Map SKU to Code and Price to Cost, or choose the corresponding headers in your files. Map stock on both sides only when both values mean the same thing.
  3. Select the shared currency and a price-change review threshold. Preview your files after consenting to server processing.
  4. Inspect the findings before buying the full CSV report for $5. The report does not update your store; make any corrections separately.

A small worked example

All data below is synthetic.

Current list:
SKU,Price,Stock
001,10.00,5
002,0.00,1
003,2.00,2

Supplier update:
Code,Cost,Qty
001,13.00,0
002,1.00,1
004,4.00,7

Five findings: 001 price increases 30%, its stock falls from 5 to 0, 002 changes from a zero price to 1.00, 004 is new, and 003 is absent from the update. The percentage change from zero is undefined.

What to check before using the result

A missing SKU can simply be outside a partial update. Codes are case-sensitive and retain leading zeros. Duplicate keys must be resolved first. Currency conversion, tax normalization and pack-size conversion are not performed.

Does a missing SKU mean that the supplier discontinued it?

No. Ask whether the update is a complete catalog or a selected subset. The report says absent from update, not discontinued.
