How to compare Shopify product CSV prices before an import

A price update can contain changes you did not intend. Compare a current catalog file with your proposed update before deciding what to import. This review reports differences; it does not make the import safe or change your store.

Step by step

  1. Export your current products from Shopify and keep an untouched backup. Create a separate copy for proposed changes.
  2. Prepare two UTF-8 CSVs, each no larger than 10 MB. Each row must have a unique, nonempty SKU or Variant SKU and a Price or Variant Price column. Remove image-only rows and resolve duplicate SKUs manually.
  3. Open Price Change Review. Select the current file first and the proposed file second, then choose Create report. You can try the included example without supplying your own data.
  4. Review every finding, then download CSV for Excel. A missing SKU may simply be outside the scope of a partial update. Use Shopify documentation to plan the actual import separately.

A small worked example

All data below is synthetic.

Current CSV:
SKU,Price,Title,Vendor
NOTE,10.00,Notebook,Demo Supply
PEN,3.00,Pen,Demo Supply

Proposed CSV:
SKU,Price,Title,Vendor
NOTE,12.00,Notebook,
PEN,3.00,Pen,Demo Supply
MUG,9.00,Mug,Demo Supply

This synthetic example produces three findings: NOTE changes from 10.00 to 12.00, its Vendor field is cleared, and MUG is a new SKU. PEN is unchanged.

What to check before using the result

SKU is this tool's comparison key, not a replacement for Shopify import matching. Handles, options, images and other import rules are outside this report. An omitted Vendor column and a present but empty Vendor cell are different: only the latter can produce a cleared-field finding.

Can I import the downloaded report into Shopify?

No. The output lists findings, not a Shopify product import file. Make any intended changes in your catalog file and review Shopify's import requirements.

The online tool is free. Optional offline copies cost $26.99 each and provide the same core analysis.
